About Us

The first game, in 2006, was played between players from Mercyhurst College to help raise money for the Alzheimer's Association of Erie. The first year, we were able to raise close to $1000 for the charity.

In 2008, players from Gannon University joined to help our cause. Two teams that had been rivals in college, joined together to support a great cause.

In 2011, two more local teams were added to the event, Penn State Behrend and Edinboro University.  We were able to raise $1200 for a new local school, The Erie Rise Leadership Academy, that was opening it's doors for the first time.

In 2012, we changed our format and decided to have a player draft from the 4 local colleges to form two All-Star teams. We were able to raise over $1,600 for the students of the Erie Rise Leadership Academy Charter School.

This July, our event will go regional by welcoming teams from outside of Erie into the Summer Slam. We currently have Men's and Women's teams playing for the first ever Summer Slam Championship Trophy. We will also have a free youth clinic on the morning of July 20th. Games will be played at Mercyhurst University and Gannon University on July 20th, with the championship games being played at Mercyhurst on July 21st.
